INFJ (Empathy Type)This section explains the integration of the second and third functions.
The following is a quote (with some modifications) from "Let's Look at the World from the Perspective of MBTI Personality Type Theory" (website no longer exists).
The conflict, compromise, and integration of extroverted feeling (Fe) and introverted thinking (Ti).
The challenge for INFJs in adolescence is their second psychological function. Extraverted Feeling (Fe) and the third psychological function Introverted Thinking (Ti) The goal is to strike a balance.
A conflict arises between prioritizing connections and cooperation with others, or objectively observing things without being swayed by the atmosphere, and pursuing efficiency and logical consistency.
Which of these two psychological functions is dominant depends on the time and situation. It's impossible to integrate and utilize both effectively from the start. You have to skillfully choose which to use depending on the circumstances.
Generally, extroverted feeling is more active, but when you're alone or introspective, introverted thinking will be more active.
Sometimes, one of these psychological functions can become too dominant, leading to negative consequences. In reality, a unified perception is achieved when these two psychological functions work together in balance.
Through the workings of extroverted feeling, they feel a strong connection with other people and cherish those bonds. They possess insight into individuals and human society in general, and seek harmony and peace for those around them.
If people are in dire straits or oppressed circumstances, you feel you must do something about it.
INFJs have a strong sense of responsibility and empathy in relationships, and they act with a spirit of service to society. They seek spiritual joy by deepening trusting relationships with people rather than material desires.
However, if one values bonds and cooperative relationships too highly, it can sometimes lead to an inability to break ties with unhealthy relationships or to taking on excessive responsibility, ultimately resulting in losses. Furthermore, it can cause one to forget to protect oneself and become overly self-sacrificing.
INFJs themselves might be okay with that to some extent. However, if they find themselves in a difficult situation, anyone would have to put themselves first in order to get out of it.
In normal human relationships, you'll realize that one-sided relationships, where you only receive or only give, are undesirable.
Therefore, I believe we shouldn't ask those who willingly volunteer to make excessive sacrifices. Because, given human nature, I see that such sacrifices are unsustainable in the long run. I believe that each individual needs financial and material support, and should be given rest.
Thus, while INFJs' interests are directed towards people and relationships, they think calmly and logically about how to resolve discord and conflict and maintain peace.
They will try to solve the problem politically at times, and technically at other times.
Because they seek universal influence and tend to think theoretically, they are drawn to science and technology. Certainly, through thought, it's possible to pursue only the benefit and efficiency of those who use it, potentially excluding the human element. However, they will likely recognize and admire the value of scientific knowledge, a product of thought, and the technology based on it. Many also engage in research and development in fields such as science, technology, and medicine, aiming to contribute to society.
