The MBTI personality test divides personalities into 16 types. One of these types is the INFP. INFPs are true idealists.INFPs always harbor high ideals and strive to find hope even in the most difficult situations. That is a truly amazing power.
I have the impression that many highly sensitive people (HSPs) are also INFP types, so this might be helpful for HSPs as well.

For example, Vanilla, a celebrity famous for repeatedly undergoing cosmetic surgery in order to look like a French doll (Instagram @vani0531) is also an INFP (estimated by the author). Vanilla has a high ideal of "wanting to become a French doll" and continues to undergo plastic surgery. Vanilla says that she has only achieved her ideal of 8%, but she also seems to be full of a sense of fulfillment.

In addition, singer Utada Hikaru is also an INFP (estimated by the author) and has achieved great success as a singer. However,In reality, many INFPs probably feel that life is difficult or that they are not able to achieve their ideals.
ThisI am also an INFP and an HSP, prone to depression and anxiety, and not very active. In fact, I seriously considered suicide twice.I've Googled things like "methods of suicide," and I even plotted to withdraw all my savings from the bank and travel as much as I wanted before I died. (In reality, I only went as far as withdrawing the money from the bank.)
For those of you who are INFPs, I'd like to share some ways to make life more enjoyable and fulfill your dreams. This is also a message I wrote to my past self. I sincerely hope it can be of help to other INFPs who are struggling with similar issues.
SimilarlyI want to help as many INFPs and HSPs as possible who are struggling. Therefore, if you like, we would appreciate it if you could share it on social media, etc. Of course, only those who think this article is worthwhile should do so, so thank you in advance.

Is life difficult because you understand other people's feelings?
INFPteeth,They are more sensitive than others and are more perceptive of the feelings of those around them. There seems to be a tendency for this to be the most sensitive temperament.HSPIt is called that.
If any of the following apply to you,HSPThere is a high probability that this is the case.↓
- My way of thinking is complex, and I think deeply before I act.
- Sensitive to stimuli and easily fatigued
- Easily swayed by other people's feelings, and easily empathetic.
- All senses are sharp
The following bookThat's an excessive level of sensitivity. In this book, the author, who is an HSP herself, introduces her daily life in easy-to-understand four-panel comics. Amazon reviews also say,However, this book, "Too Sensitive to Really Feel," humorously depicts the world through the eyes of an unconventional author, which is entertaining and uplifting in itself. It also includes coping strategies that might be helpful for highly sensitive people (HSPs).』(Review from qcteddy)As stated,This contains helpful information for people with sensitive constitutions. If you think you might be an HSP (Highly Sensitive Person), I recommend you read this.
『I hope this book will help you feel a little lighter in your heart, by making you think, "There are people just like me."』

Because you have ideals, your ideals will not come true.
You might be completely taken aback by this sudden statement. It is precisely because you have high ideals (Fi) and a strong desire to achieve them that your ideals (Fi) remain unfulfilled. Some of you may be thinking, "What kind of nonsense is he talking about?" However,You should be convinced if you read this article to the end.
INFPs want to maximize their potential.
INFPs want to keep as many possibilities open as possible. Why? Because they want to fulfill all of their ideals (including ideals they haven't yet realized) = Fi.That's why I'm so afraid of not being able to fulfill even a small part of my ideals. If my ideals aren't realized, I don't know what I'm living for. I want to give my life a special meaning.
INFPs pursue the highest ideal they believe they can achieve. If you have a clear goal, like Vanilla's, such as "I want to become a French doll," you'll feel more confident in taking action towards it.However, in reality, isn't it often the case that those goals aren't clearly defined? The main reason for this is actually idealism.

A vicious cycle where you can't take action unless you set an ideal.
As mentioned earlier, INFPs want to find their ideal self and make it a reality. If a goal is not set, INFPs cannot be proactive. Why? Because of the following anxieties and fears.
- What if, when I take action or make a decision, the result deviates from the ideal image I should be achieving?
- Even if I try to set a goal, I worry, "Is this goal really the right one...? Will I really be satisfied with it...?" I feel anxious because I don't know how I'll feel in the future once I achieve my goal.
However, there's something important to note here.
Without everyone taking action, we cannot create the optimal ideal. When you think about it, it's obvious. For example, if you stay cooped up in your room all the time, you won't get to know the outside world, nor will you understand what you're capable of. If you take action, you might find your ideal job, discover your talents (like unexpectedly becoming hooked on cooking, for example), or make other surprising discoveries. In other words, if you don't take action, you won't be able to acquire the information and experiential knowledge needed to shape your ideals.
This is the trap of idealism.People don't take action unless they define an ideal, but in reality, you can't find your ideal unless you take action.
In the "Multitasking Power" concept advocated by Horie, emphasis is also placed on taking many actions.
Takafumi Horie: "Multitasking ability is the most important skill."
Toyo Keizai ONLINE(Quoted from)
INFPs prefer a blank canvas.
INFPs, by their very nature, are afraid of giving up other possibilities (Ne) by deciding on one ideal.
In other words, they may feel that doing nothing is the best course of action.Because, for example, once you've taken a job, it's understandable that it's difficult to switch to a completely different field. While it's not impossible to go from being a designer to a chef, it's still quite challenging.By postponing a decision, you can maintain more possibilities and feel more secure.
To use a painter's analogy, it's like a painter who endlessly stares at a blank canvas.
A blank canvas = infinite possibilities = the optimal state
But is it really okay to keep it as a blank canvas forever? Of course not.Wouldn't you actually find that more inspiration comes to you if you just go ahead and start drawing than you did before? By taking action, you increase your information.
First, let's make a plan (draw a draft)!
However, it takes courage to just dip a brush in paint and start painting without any preparation, doesn't it? That's right, you should draw a preliminary sketch in pencil beforehand.
The same is true in the real world.Let's say you're a high school student and you want to become a designer. It's important to start taking action right away, but to become a designer...It is also extremely important to create a detailed roadmap. You might think that setting a plan will restrict your options and narrow your possibilities (Ne). However, as mentioned earlier, taking action inevitably leads to unexpected discoveries and more choices than before. INTJs are skilled at planning and strategizing. Therefore, it would be good to learn from them.
And based on those new discoveries, it's entirely possible that you might change your plans or even find goals that are better than your original ones.Does that make you excited?
To summarize, it looks like this.
- Taking sudden action is scary.
- Set goals and plans
- Act in accordance with that plan.
- Make a new discovery
- Based on that information, we will revise our plans and ideal vision.
- I will take action again... (and repeat this process).
There are many branching points. Certainly, there are many futures that cannot be reached (such as becoming a chef),At the same time, pursuing a career as a designer might open up the possibility of becoming a famous designer.
Let's not let the seeds never sprout, but instead grow into magnificent plants that produce beautiful flowers!
INFPs are drawn to the dark past (Si).
At the beginning, INFP said,No matter how difficult the situation, I try to find hope." he said,That can sometimes become a bad habit.
INFPs assign meaning to things (Ne).They project their painful past (Si) onto themselves, thinking, "It's because of this painful past that I am who I am today. That (painful) experience was valuable."Ideally, we would be able to turn failures into stepping stones to success, but often we just end up dwelling on painful past experiences and difficult emotions.
I was the same way. Painful memories and unpleasant experiences would flash back at me all the time, and I often felt depressed. At one point, a friend advised me that this couldn't go on, so when I was feeling down, I made an effort to think about bright and fun things. And when I did that,Surprisingly, I found it easier to wallow in my sadness, and it was harder to think about positive things when I was feeling down.
Let's use our feelings for good.
At one point, I decided to completely change my perspective on flashbacks.I decided to consider this a gift from heaven.I thought that since I would often remember my past failures, I could be more careful in my daily life to avoid making those same mistakes again. And so,I'm no longer feeling depressed.
A well-known example is the question of how one perceives a glass that is half full of water. Is the glass half full of water, or only half full?
The author views things as follows:The glass is half full of water.I adopted this perspective.
「The spirit of an ENTJ」As I wrote in that article, you can change your perspective on failure.
summary
No matter how amazing someone is, they weren't amazing from the start. We must not forget that they became that way through a process of taking steps.
INFPs have a strong desire to have high ideals and the determination to make them a reality. That's a very good thing,It's a real shame that its true potential hasn't been realized.
Humans learn things by doing various things. It's important to break free from the cycle of inaction. Believe in yourself and take action. There are many things you only learn by actually doing them.At least, that's what I've decided to do.
I hope all INFPs can achieve their dreams.
