The process leading up to the day before surgery

Tests and examinations performed before the surgery
  • First visit
    (One month before surgery)
    Eye examination and counseling

I had my eyes examined to check which lenses would be suitable and to see if there were any problems with my eyes. When asked whether I usually wear glasses or contact lenses, I answered that I wear glasses.(Although I occasionally use daily disposable contact lenses, I answered that way because I "usually" wear glasses.)

(However, as I later found out through my own research,
If you wear contact lenses, please stop wearing them for several days to two weeks before the examination.(Sanno Hospital Eye Center)https://www.sannoclc.or.jp/hospital/icl/contents/time.html(Quoted from)That's what I was told, but I wasn't informed of it..)

Also,Please note that eye drops will be used to dilate your pupils for the examination, so your eyes will be sensitive to light for several hours. Therefore, it might be a good idea to bring sunglasses.

In subsequent counseling sessions,ICLICLI received an explanation about what the surgery entails, the risks of complications such as infection, and other options such as LASIK.

  • Second hospital visit
    (Two weeks before surgery)
Further pre-operative examinations, determination of desired visual acuity, scheduling of surgery date, etc.

We performed another examination of your vision and cornea. This was done to determine the average values (as there may be variations from day to day).

Just like during your initial examination, we will use eye drops to dilate your pupils, so you will be sensitive to light for several hours.

Then, we decide what level of vision we want. I,I decided to improve my vision to 1.5.

After that, a blood test is performed to determine the surgery date. The surgery date may vary depending on the time it takes from ordering the lens to receiving it, and the day the doctor is available to perform the surgery, but in my case, it was from that day.I will have surgery in two weeks. It has come to this.

I received a consent form for the surgery and eye drops to use starting three days before the surgery. The consent form requires the signature of both the applicant and their guarantor. The guarantor can be a family member or friend.

  • 2-3 days before surgery
Put in three different kinds of eye drops.

Remember to use eye drops to prevent infection starting three days prior to the appointment.

As mentioned above,The authorI wasn't informed that I should stop wearing contact lenses a few days to two weeks after the surgery, and I ended up wearing daily disposable lenses the day before or a few days before the surgery. The reason why you shouldn't wear contact lenses is,Because wearing them subtly changes the shape of the eyes.Apparently, it takes some time for your eyes to return to their original shape after you remove your contact lenses.

Fortunately, I didn't experience any problems, but please be sure not to wear contact lenses for a week before your surgery.

The author's test results data

Based on the examination results, it seems that they can determine whether I am eligible for ICL surgery and select the appropriate lens. My eyes were diagnosed as healthy and without any problems.
