About ISTJ relationships

Safety and security are my top priorities, and I strive to get along well with my family, friends, and colleagues.

I may not interact with a wide range of people at once, but I cherish the relationships I have close to me.

I value time to think alone and focus on what needs to be done, but during breaks, I bring up topics without embarrassment or reservation, and the conversation flows naturally with a touch of quirky humor.

If you have a family, you will feel strong affection for your spouse, children, grandchildren, etc.

However, because their emotional expression is somewhat awkward, they tend not to show affection directly to others.

They might be careful to ensure that those around them do what needs to be done and that their careless actions don't lead to trouble. This might be hard to see, but it's done out of consideration for others.

They aren't particularly good at giving compliments, so they might not be very good at motivating others. However, if someone fulfills what's expected of them, they will sincerely praise them. This is normal considering the order of the psychological functions of an ISTJ, but to people who don't understand this, they might appear to be clumsy.

Those around him need to acknowledge and accept that gentle side hidden beneath his seemingly strict exterior.

About love for ISTJs

In romantic relationships, showing empathy, expressing warm emotions, and creating a romantic atmosphere are often necessary to get things going, but ISTJs may not be very accustomed to doing so.

Even if you have a high opinion of someone, you often don't feel the need to express it verbally. Instead, you show your affection by protecting their safety and stability, or by solving practical problems. However, the other person needs to understand this.

ISTJs, despite their personality types, often enjoy talking about romance and are very interested in the opposite sex.

Introverted sensing, the primary psychological function, allows you to meticulously observe the characteristics of someone you're interested in and retain that impression internally.

In conjunction with this, the third psychological function, introverted feeling, comes into play, making us feel a strong attraction to cute or handsome people, and that feeling becomes unbearable.

However, these feelings don't immediately surface; they continue to simmer internally. The fourth psychological function, extroverted intuition, might trigger a bit of daydreaming, but because it's the fourth psychological function, the daydreaming either ends quickly or explodes in a strange direction.

In most cases, the second psychological function, extroverted thinking, kicks in, and you resolve to do whatever it takes to win over the person you like. Rather than hesitating and wavering, it's just right to be prepared to go for it and risk failure. You are very brave.

However, because they are introverted and feeling, they won't try to forcefully win the other person over. They will subtly convey their interest and gauge the other person's reaction. Whether this comes across as kind or unsatisfying depends on the situation.

It's heartbreaking to be rejected, and it will take time to recover. That's just how it is.

The person who has to decline can also feel hurt. This is especially true for those who tend to be introverted and emotional.

Let's believe that another opportunity will surely come along. Every little bit counts.

Thus, if you are fortunate enough to find someone with whom you share mutual feelings, your introverted sensing and extroverted feeling will work together, and a very romantic love story will begin. You will become loyal and devoted to the person you love, showing a side of yourself that is different from your usual resolute demeanor. Whether this is seen as cute or creepy depends on the situation.

As an SJ type, you will likely have a tendency to be prudent and secure in your life. In most cases, even if it's modest, your married life will be stable.

You might find ENFJs (your duality), INFPs (your activation relationship), and ESTPs (your mirror image relationship) around you. Just for your reference. You might not encounter many INFPs.

Incidentally, couples where both partners are SJ types tend to have higher marital satisfaction. In other words, ESTJ, ESFJ, ISTJ, and ISFJ types, who are predominantly introverted sensing.

Advice for those dating an ISTJ

ISTJs are serious and loyal, and once they fall in love, they will never betray that person. While they are sincere with others, they are also strict about rules and tend to expect the same level of sincerity from their partners. ISTJs are attracted to cultured, intelligent, and well-groomed individuals. They can also be strict with others, and if their partner is late or cheats, they may quickly lose interest or scold them with logic.

ISTJs experience deep emotions, but often struggle to show this side of themselves in romantic relationships. Those in a relationship with an ISTJ can be understanding partners by not expecting the ISTJ to immediately reveal their feelings. Sometimes, an ISTJ may seem oblivious to your feelings, but you can help them understand your perspective by rationally presenting facts and logical explanations.
