The meaning of each of the eight letters
The following is a quote (with some modifications) from "Let's Look at the World from the Perspective of MBTI Personality Type Theory" (website no longer exists).
Extraverted
Mental energy is directed outward. They show a strong interest in environmental stimuli and their surroundings, and actively engage with them. They possess objectivity.
Introverted
The energy of the mind is directed inward. We focus our awareness on what is happening within ourselves, delving deeply into a limited number of things. This leads to strong convictions and profound understanding. There is a sense of agency.
Sensation (Sensation, Sensing)
They perceive facts accurately and in detail through their five senses. They are realistic and grounded. They carefully observe individual pieces of information, but if they focus too much on them, it becomes difficult to grasp the relationships and the bigger picture.
Intuition (iNtuition, iNtuiting)
They recognize patterns, understand relationships, and interpret things. They can grasp the underlying meaning and understand the big picture. They are interested in ideas and concepts. They tend to be abstract and theoretical. If this tendency goes too far, they may neglect detailed observation of individual things.
Thinking
They make rational decisions based on logic and reasoning. They understand systems through analysis, focus on the tasks that need to be addressed, and strive to solve problems efficiently. However, their focus on efficiency and profit can sometimes lead them to disregard the impact on others and ethical values.
Feeling
"How you feel" forms the basis of your judgment and decision-making. You value interpersonal relationships and emotional harmony, and you make judgments about what is appropriate or inappropriate, good or evil, based on ethical values. In particular, you are deeply moved by acts of compassion for others and altruistic actions that benefit the whole. Your sensibilities are cultivated, and you become interested in humanity expressed through art. However, if you become too fixated on emotional harmony and harmonious relationships, you may end up ignoring rationality or making uneconomical decisions.
Judging
We make value judgments and decisions based on external criteria. It is important that everyone can objectively recognize these criteria. We believe that things should be orderly and in a structured manner. We want to keep our surroundings neat and tidy, and act only after thorough preparation and meticulous planning. We also believe that others should conform to the established framework.
Flexible (Percieving)
They have formed their own independent value system, making decisions and taking action proactively. They try to respond appropriately on the fly depending on the situation. They will abide by rules and authority as long as they judge them to be appropriate. Otherwise, they will consider them intrusive or meaningless and ignore them. They are skeptical of common values and common sense. Their conclusions are always open to change, and they are always willing to seek what is right. In this way, they respond flexibly according to the value system they have carefully considered on a daily basis.
